Domestic Violence Prevention

Most domestic violence charges could be avoided if the “aggressor” walks away.  Walking away from a domestic violence[codepeople-post-map] altercation prevents a physical altercation and minimizes the likelihood of police involvement.  Walking away also sends a message that such heated conflicts won’t be tolerated.

If the police are called to a residence in which domestic violence may be present, then someone is likely to be taken into custody.  An officer’s goal is tor quell a potentially violent situation by removing one or both parties from the residence.  An officer may ask one person to leave voluntarily or the officer may simply take the person into custody.
